Concept
A concept for a contemporary Mexican house, designed around strong architecture, colour and a relaxed connection between the interior and exterior. The design combines bold Mexican influences with modern spaces, natural materials and carefully chosen antique pieces, creating a home with character, warmth and a strong sense of place.
Although the outside is vibrant and hums with colour, the inside is cool and relaxing, hence the pale colour palette for the living room. The portrait of Frieda Kahlo who is an iconic Mexican personage and renown artist, gives depth and meaning as to where the hacienda is situated.

The master bedroom was deliberately made dark because of the powerful sun -shine. As the room is big, with good proportions, painting it dark gives it mystery. The colourful painting of the Toucans, also reminds us of where the house is and by keeping the bed and chair in white, it livens the design.

This is a master bathroom with pizazz. By making the floor and the shower floor in the same dark blue micro cement as the worktop, it all pulls together. The oversized Baroque style mirrors throws elegance into the bathroom and by keeping the wash basins in glass, nothing feels heavy. The dark blue micro cement has a silver sparkle in it.

The kitchen is practical as well as being colourful. It overlooks and joins the dining area perfectly. Corion worktops in cream, a travertine floor for easy cleaning, dark walnut cupboards and open shelves make for ample storage. No clutter anywhere.
The colour is that wonderful rich burnt orange one sees in Mexico which ties in with the vibrant pink of the outside areas.

The open dining area is more rustic. With that intense pink, a long, simple wooden table, wrought iron chairs with dark green cushions, large black pots with frondy greenery, lanterns for subdued lighting, are all that’s needed, all ensuring a calm place to enjoy good food.

The pool is special. It’s stark and by keeping the colours dark for the pool tiles and dark for the surround, it makes for a very relaxed swim. Nothing to fall into the pool, no plants, the architecture says it all.
